About


Our Story

Italian Meateria was founded in 1986 when brothers Michael and David wanted to build upon the legacy their father had begun. Genaro Zingone had owned a butcher shop in the Bronx in the 1950s, joyously serving his community for nearly a half-century. Michael and David sought to carry on their father’s pastime, integrating it with off-the-boat recipes that Genaro and his wife Harriet had kept secret since arriving to the United States.

Often referred to as the “blood of the store,” Italian Meateria's signature Mariana sauce is the top-secret recipe central to the store's history. This generational recipe has served as the cornerstone of the store for decades as it is incorporated into many of the classic items on the menu. A fresh batch is always available to keep pace with the extraordinary demand from customers.

Owners Michael and David Zingone will surely have their goofy repertoire of jokes cued for their customers, but it’s always game on when they step foot in the kitchen. Maybe their jokes haven't aged so well, but luckily for us their generational recipes will never lose their edge - keeping customers always coming back for more.
